Orijen Dog Food has a simple and strong vision, which is to create dog foods that are biologically appropriate to nourish pets with their evolutionary adaptation to fresh meat and protein-rich diets. This includes whole-prey diets with ratios that mimic a dog's natural diet. With that said, Orijen creates its recipes only with the best, regionally sourced, Canadian ingredients delivered fresh at their door daily and then processed in their own award-winning kitchen. This creates a food loaded with flavour that nourishes your dog as nature intended.

The Orijen Original Dog Food features a diet that is 85% high-quality meat (2/3 fresh or raw, 1/3 gently dehydrated) and a protein level of 38% to replicate a dog's natural diet. This richly nourishing meat includes free-run chicken and turkey, wild-caught fish, and nest-laid eggs, which are all regionally sourced and are delivered fresh (never frozen) without preservatives. In addition, the infusion of freeze-dried chicken and turkey liver enhances the flavour, making this food even more delicious for picky eaters. The last 15% of the ingredients include fresh and local fruits, vegetables, and botanicals for a complete and balanced diet. All of these factors combine to create a low glycemic, low carbohydrate, and grain-free formula that is unmatched by any other dry dog food!

This chart is intended as a recommendation. Your dog's daily feeding requirements may differ due to breed, environment, age, and activity level.

To help your pet adjust without digestive upset, we recommend transitioning gradually over 7 to 10 days: 

  • Days 1–2: Start with 25% new food mixed with 75% of their current food
  • Days 3–4: Go to a 50/50 mix of new and old
  • Days 5–6: Shift to 75% new food and just 25% of the old
  • Day 7+: Full switch to 100% new food

Some pets might do well with a slightly faster transition, while others (especially those with sensitive stomachs or food allergies) might need a bit more time—listen to your pet and adjust as needed.
