With the Ruffwear Approach Pack, your dog can easily carry their own adventure gear while hiking or camping. This dog backpack boasts a saddlebag style design with a weight forward, radical cut harness suspension system that provides optimum comfort and load stability. The non-slip girth straps help to evenly distribute the load and provide a customizable fit. The Approach Pack features a harness chassis that is formed from laminated moulded bonded mesh with perforated foam for optimum comfort and fit.

There is also a built-in padded handle for when your doggo needs an extra lift on the trail. There are additional pockets and loops to carry a variety of dog hiking gear for the trail or your next camping adventure. Attach a leash to the 6061-T6 aluminum V-ring or the webbed loop. You can also use a Ruffwear harness in combination with the backpack. For added safety on the trail, attach the Ruffwear The Beacon or Audible Beacon to keep better track of your pooch in low light or heavy brush.

Please only allow your dog to carry 25% of its weight, for those pooches who have never used a backpack start light and very slowly add additional weight so they can get comfortable with the backpack.

How to Measure Your Dog

 

 

  1. Neck: Measure the circumference of the base, leaving enough space to fit two fingers comfortably.
  2. Lower Neck: Measure the circumference of the area above the shoulder blades towards the top of the chest, leaving enough space to fit two fingers comfortably.
  3. Chest Girth: Measure the circumference of the widest part of the chest behind the front legs.
  4. Length: Measure the length of your dog's back from the top of their shoulders to the base of their tail.
  5. Height: Measure the distance from the floor to the top of your dog's shoulder blades. Your dog needs to be standing on all four legs.
  6. Paw Width: Measure the widest part of the paw. You'll get a better measurement if your pup is standing.
  7. Paw Length: Measure the distance between the "heel" and the longest toe nail. You'll get a better measurement if your pup is standing.
  8. Muzzle Length: Measure the nose length from the tip to the crook where you want the muzzle to sit comfortably below the eyes.
  9. Muzzle Width: Measure the muzzle's circumference at the widest part, leaving space for two fingers to ensure a comfortable fit.
  10. Weight: Step on a scale while holding the dog, then subtract your weight from the total. A dog scale is conveniently located at all our locations.
